State and Local Efforts to Support Women-Owned Small Businesses (WOSBs)


The goal of the federal government is to offer at least 5% of all federal contracting dollars to businesses owned by women every year. This initiative helps in rendering a levelled playing field for women business owners. Through this initiative, the government is also limiting the competition for certain contracts to businesses that participate in the Women-owned small business federal contract programs. Benefits of Support Extended by the Federal Government to WOSBs The Federal government limits certain government business contracts to women-owned businesses to encourage their participation in specific industries in which the role of WOSBs is underrepresented. Some of these contracts are also restricted further for economically disadvantaged WOSBs. It is to be noted that the Small Business Administration maintains a list of the eligible industries and their NAICS codes.
