SBA Hawaii-Pacific Islands District Office – News & Upcoming Events

SBA HAWAII-PACIFIC ISLANDS DISTRICT OFFICE

u s small business administration
Liane Fu & Noela Napoleon

ISLAND BIZ

Aloha, everyone!

Our office launched our SBA Kapolei Hale Event series with a very successful workshop on February 22nd!  ‘Are Your Numbers Adding Up?’, facilitated by Economic Development Specialist Mary Dale, featured the ins and outs of financial statements.  Participants worked in small groups on basic financials for a business.  Attendees got a chance to present their financials to a panel of lenders that included Doug Okamura and Demaney Kihe from First Hawaiian Bank; Michael Ching from Council for Native Hawaiian Affairs (CNHA); Trini Abaya-Wright from American Savings; and Lori Honda and Amy Flores from Central Pacific Bank.  Mahalo for your support of our event!

We have had the pleasure of working with two companies we met at the event – Debra Leilani Werner of Leilani Heritage and Liane Fu of Speakeasy Productions.  Liane shared her thoughts after the workshop: “After years of giving my financial statements to my CPA without really understanding what it all meant, Noela, of the Patsy T. Mink Center for Business & Leadership, was able to open my eyes after just one session. I now feel more confident about examining my financial statements with a more critical eye. It was just a couple of hours out of my day, but it transformed the way I see my business metrics. It was a great experience! I eagerly look forward to more such business literacy opportunities offered by the Hawaii SBA.  Thank you for the learning opportunity!”

Our next event at Kapolei Hale is the Credit Restoration Workshop on March 15th from 9 AM to Noon.  For more information and to register, visit http://sbahi.eventbrite.com.

March is Women’s History Month.  Take time to learn about and honor the women of the past, today’s amazing women and the girls who will become the women of tomorrow!

See you next month!

Hazel
