Now Accepting Nominations for Small Business Week Awards (San Diego and Imperial Counties)

National Small Business Week Awards, are you the next winner?

Nominate a Small Business for an SBA Award!

Nominations due January 7, 2020

Only nominees located in San Diego and Imperial Counties will be accepted by the SBA San Diego District Office. All small business nominees must have been in existence for a minimum of three years. Self-nominations accepted.

Completed awards packages must be delivered by mail or by hand to the SBA San Diego District Office, Attn: Cynthia Harris, 550 West C Street, Suite 550, San Diego, CA 92101, by January 7, 2020, 12 pm PST.  Emailed packages will not be accepted.

We strongly recommend completed packages are submitted early to get feedback and support in advance of the final deadline. 

2020 AWARDS CATEGORIES - SUMMARY

National AwardsRecognition possible at state/regional/national levels

Consult the Awards Guidelines for a list of all National Small Business Week Awards, eligibility criteria, selection process, evaluation criteria and how to submit a nomination package. Click here for all nomination forms.

  • Small Business Person of the Year: For developing an outstanding, growing business; innovative product(s) or services, increasing jobs, increasing sales, overcoming adversity, and community contributions. (See pages 4 - 6 of Awards Guidelines)
  • Small Business Exporter of the Year: Significantly increased export sales and profits, encouraging other firms to export, increased jobs through exports, and innovative methods of creating markets, effective use of federal/state export programs. (See pages 7 & 8 of Awards Guidelines)
  • Phoenix Award for Small Business Disaster Recovery: Given to a business owner whose efforts and contributions have enabled their business to recover successfully from a disaster. (See pages 9 & 10 of Awards Guidelines)

  • 8a Graduate: Business that graduated from the 8a Business Development Program by April 1, 2019 (See pages 21 - 23 of Awards Guidelines)

Local AwardsNo recognition beyond the San Diego District Office. 

Small Business Awards – In addition to the qualifying information shown below for each category, these awards use the same eligibility, and criteria as the Small Business Person of the Year award. (See pages 4 - 6 of the Awards Guidelines) Complete the District Office Awards Nomination Form 3315 instead of the 3301. Be sure to address all of the judging criteria, with emphasis on the award nomination category.

Note: Action photos are preferable. No logos or finished products in photos please.

  • Minority-Owned Small Business of the Year: Businesses 51% or more owned and operated by one or more socially disadvantaged individuals - For developing an outstanding, growing business; innovative product(s) or services, increasing jobs, increasing sales, overcoming adversity, and community contributions. 
  • Woman-Owned Small Business of the Year: Businesses 51% or more owned and operated by one or more socially disadvantaged individuals - For developing an outstanding, growing business; innovative product(s) or services, increasing jobs, increasing sales, overcoming adversity, and community contributions.
  • Veteran-Owned Small Business of the Year: Businesses 51% or more owned and operated by one or more socially disadvantaged individuals - For developing an outstanding, growing business; innovative product(s) or services, increasing jobs, increasing sales, overcoming adversity, and community contributions. 
  • SBA Young Entrepreneur of the Year: (Owner will not reach 30th birthday by June 1, 2020) For developing an outstanding, growing business; innovative product(s) or services, increasing jobs, increasing sales, overcoming adversity, and community contributions.

  • Jeffrey Butland Family Owned Small Business – A family owned business that has passed from one generation to another and owner has responsibility for operating the business with at least a 15 year track record - For developing an outstanding, growing business; innovative product(s) or services, increasing jobs, increasing sales, overcoming adversity, and community contributions.
