SBA Celebrates Women’s History Month
Join the U.S. Small Business Administration on March 31, 2022 for an online event celebrating Women’s History Month. You will hear from industry experts including Natalie Madeira Cofield, SBA Assistant Administrator for the Office of Women’s Business Ownership;
Candace Waterman, President and CEO of Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP); Alisa Sheard, SBA Acting Deputy Director for the Office of Government Contracting; and Michelle Sherod, President and CEO of Accounting Legal & Logistics Solutions, Inc.
The discussion will focus on financial wellness for women-owned small businesses, the importance of increasing equity and access to opportunities that help uplift and support women entrepreneurs, and SBA
initiatives and resources that support existing women-owned small businesses and new startups as they pivot and grow in a post-COVID world.
Additional NAICS Codes for the Women-Owned
Small Business Federal Contracting program
To help provide a level playing field for women business owners, the federal government limits competition for certain contracts to businesses that participate in the Women-Owned
Small Business Federal Contracting Program (WOSB Program).
These contracts are for specific industries where women-owned small businesses are substantially underrepresented. Some contracts are restricted further to economically disadvantaged women-owned small businesses (EDWOSBs). SBA maintains a list of those eligible
industries and their North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) codes. The SBA has just increased the number of eligible industries by 70%, driving more opportunities to those businesses.
Of the 759 eligible industries, 646 are designated for limited competition among all WOSB Program participants, and 113 are eligible for competition among only SBA-certified EDWOSBs.
SBA Surety Bond Guarantee Program
If you own a small business in the construction or service industry, you may need a surety bond. SBA-backed surety bonds can help you compete for larger contracts and grow your business.
Federal System SAM.gov will no longer use
DUNS numbers
Starting April 4, the federal government’s contracting System for Award Management (SAM.gov) and other Integrated Award Environment systems will stop using Dun & Bradstreet (DUNS) numbers and begin using a Unique Entity ID (UEI). The UEI is a 12-character
alphanumeric value managed, granted, and owned by the government. After April 4, 2022, entities will go to SAM.gov to obtain their UEI. Key dates for this transition are:
-
March 29 is the last day to obtain a new DUNS Number from Dun & Bradstreet for registering an entity or getting a UEI before the transition.
-
8:00 PM (ET) on April 1 is the last time DUNS Numbers can be used to get a Unique Entity ID (SAM) or register an entity in SAM.gov.
-
SAM.gov will be down for maintenance to complete the transition beginning on April 1 at 8:00 PM (ET) until no later than 9:00 AM (ET) on April 4.
-
Starting Monday, April 4, 2022, the new UEI from SAM.gov will be the official, government-wide identifier used for federal awards.
-
If you are using a DUNS Number as a filter or attribute on an ad hoc contract data report in the SAM.gov DataBank, you need to replace the DUNS field with a UEI field.
-
No later than 9:00 AM on April 4, SAM.gov will be back online. DUNS Numbers will no longer be displayed or accepted for entity registration.
5th Annual HUD Women-Owned Small Business
Virtual Outreach and Matchmaking
This virtual event will provide businesses a chance to hear from HUD’s leadership and learn about new updates to the WOSB program. Our focus is to bring together HUD Program Offices and Women-Owned Small Business Vendors while giving them a chance to meet and
exchange their needs and offerings.
Registrants have an opportunity to select an appointment to meet with Program Offices. All Program Offices will be matched with vendors based upon categories and scopes of services for current or future opportunities. Registration does not guarantee a one-on-one
meeting with a Program Office but is required in order for a meeting to be scheduled.
