Happy Black History Month! Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman issued a statement and video to commemorate Black History Month

The contributions Black business owners have made to entrepreneurship in the U.S. are indispensable. According to the most recent data from the U.S. Census Bureau, there are over 3 million Black-owned businesses from coast to coast, accounting for billions of dollars in annual revenue to the U.S. economy. That is a figure worth celebrating this February, Black History Month. Like many in the small business community, however, Black-owned businesses have seen their share of challenges throughout the course of the COVID-19 pandemic. But Black entrepreneurs are resolute. In fact, in the first year of the pandemic alone, there were more new Black-owned businesses proportionate to the total population than at any time in the previous 25 years.

Elevating Small Businesses Black History Month event

Join the U.S. Small Business Administration to celebrate Black History Month!

The event will feature a fireside chat and conversation with SBA Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman and Dr. Benjamin Chavis, Jr., President and CEO of the National Newspaper Publishers Association, on financial wellness, creating generational wealth through entrepreneurship, and the importance of increasing equity and access to opportunities to help uplift and support Black-owned small businesses. There will be an audience Q&A.

Accessing Business Loans for DBE Contractors, March 3

SBA-Guaranteed Loans

Join SBA’s Wisconsin District Director Eric Ness and officials from First American Capital Corp. and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation in person for this moderated panel discussion.  SBA lending and micro-lending and special considerations for contractors will be discussed. The panel is part of the two-day Annual DBE Workshop and Networking Summit hosted by WisDOT March 3-4 in Pewaukee. SBA will be onsite to talk with you about your business.
