Health Insurance Options for Businesses

Offering health insurance coverage is a major decision for businesses and they have many options available to help get their employees covered. When looking for a plan, businesses should carefully consider things like the costs, and the health services covered.
Some options may include:

Offer a traditional group health insurance plan, like a plan purchased through the Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) or otherwise from a private insurance company. Business owners can offer their employees one plan or a selection
of plans to choose from. Small employers (generally those with 1-50 employees) may be eligible to purchase coverage through SHOP, which is generally the only way for an eligible employer to claim the Small Business Health Care Tax Credit.

Reimburse employees for qualified medical expenses through a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA). This alternative type of group health plan allows employers to help their employees pay for medical expenses, including premiums for individual
