The Jackson Trap is utilized in a variety of insect monitoring programs for environmentally and economically significant exotic insect pests. APHIS-PPQ and cooperators use the Jackson Trap within federal regulatory pest programs that are necessary to protect American agriculture from pests of concern as well as to gather information about pest presence necessary to maintain access to export markets. PPQ monitors the presence and/or movement of a variety of target pests using a network of detection traps, including specialized lures placed in the Jackson Trap.
