\nThis week we recognized Women\u2019s Equal Pay Day and the continued work needed to ensure that women have access to equitable economic opportunities.<\/p>\n

\nOn Tuesday, the White House held a formal program commemorating women leaders across the nation with special recognition for SBA Administrator Isabella Guzman.<\/p>\n

\nAs we continue to celebrate Women\u2019s History Month, I would like to recognize the leadership of women across the nation who stand in service to support women entrepreneurs through our network of centers and resource partners.<\/p>\n

\nAt the Office of Women\u2019s Business Ownership, every day is a day for women to make history, and we welcome you to remain connected and engaged with us by connecting with a center in your community and by\n\njoining us for our upcoming inaugural Women\u2019s Business Summit<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\nThe Office of Women’s Business Ownership Observes Equal Pay Day
\n
\n<\/h2>\n

\nAccording to the National Committee on Pay Equity (NCPE), Equal Pay Day symbolizes how far into the year women must work to earn what men earned in the previous year.  Equal Pay Day was originated in 1996 as a public awareness event to illustrate the gap between\n men’s and women’s wages.  Significant gender pay gaps persisted almost 60 years after the passage of the Equal Pay Act of 1963, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and Executive Order 11246 in 1965.<\/p>\n

\nWomen in the United States who work full-time, year-round typically are paid only 83 cents for every dollar paid to men. The wage gap is even more pronounced for many women of color.
